Indo-Dutch Teakwood BoxEarly 19th century
A very nice and decorative Dutch colonial box made of Burma teakwood. It features a beautiful pierced brass escutcheon and pierced brass ornaments on all corners and sides. On the sides solid brass carrying handles with a pierced brass back plate. The box opens to reveal one large lift-out tray and five smaller storage compartments. Underneath the lift-out tray one large storage compartment. The original lock and hinges are attached by means of bolts with brass studs on the outside, a typical feature of the characteristic decoration of this type of colonial box. Two beautiful brass hinges secure the lid to the back.
The box is in good condition and has been lovingly restored and finished to its former glory using a traditional form of French polishing and waxing.
