British Colonial Teakwood Extending Dining Table

Mid 19th century

SGD 23,000

An exceptional British colonial teakwood extending dining table. The top, with a deep moulded edge and rounded corners, extends well beyond the base.
The table has a telescopic under-frame that extends via a winding mechanism, which allows the table to be extended while the centre leg remains in place.

It has five additional leaves of 62 cm (18½”) each. The legs, with a bulbous top and reeded tapering shafts, terminate in brass casters. Fully extended, the table measures 526 cm x 140 cm (or 17 ft x 4 ft 7”) and can seat 16 people comfortably.

The table is in good condition and has been lovingly restored and finished to its former glory using a traditional form of French polishing and waxing. The Burma teak wood that this piece has been made of has a warm color and an attractive, straight grain.

This table is featured in our blog How to Decorate an Antique Dining Table
