British Colonial Rosewood Linen Press

A British colonial cupboard made of rosewood. The upper section has a flat top, egg and dart carving on the edge and fleur-de-lis carving on the frieze. The floating panels of the doors are boldly carved with a large oval sunburst design, centered by an oval disk and a rosette and leaf embellishment in the corners. The frames carved with elongated reserves and carved circles in the corners. The interior in mahogany and is fitted with two shelves. The lower part comprises two small drawers over two larger ones. It features a gadrooned edge at the top and bottom, wooden knobs on the drawers and rests on small bun feet.

The cupboard is in good condition and has been lovingly restored and finished to its former glory using a traditional form of French polishing and waxing. The Indian rosewood that this piece has been made of has a naturally occurring dark shade with a striking grain. The drawer sides and bottom are made of teakwood and attached with fine dovetails to the rosewood drawer front.
