British Colonial Glass Front Cabinet with Pillars

Early 19th century

SGD 8,000

A magnificent antique rosewood cabinet. It has a deep cornice with a wide band of floral carving. The frieze is relief carved in a wave design with a floral block at the centre and a rosette in the corners. The cabinet has double doors with eight bevelled glass panels within a rosewood frame; they open to reveal three shelves. Along the sides of the doors beautifully solid spirally turned pillars. The base with a wide band of floral carving comprises two drawers with a brass handle. The cabinet rests on four carved ball feet.

The cabinet is in good condition and has been lovingly restored and finished to its former glory using a traditional form of French polishing and waxing. The Indian rosewood that this piece has been made of has a naturally occurring dark shade with a striking grain.
