Portuguese Colonial Rosewood Sideboard

Mid 19th century

A Portuguese colonial sideboard made of rosewood. The top is made of one piece of rosewood and features a small gallery. Below the top one large and two smaller drawers. All drawers are flush fitting with the original recessed brass handles. The double doors, constructed with fielded panels, are flanked by two carved solid pillars. On the sides brass carrying handles. The piece stands on a plinth, resting on four small bun feet. The interior is fitted with two shelves and three
small drawers.

The sideboard is in good condition and has been lovingly restored and finished to its former glory using a traditional form of French polishing and waxing.  The Indian rosewood that this piece has been made of has a naturally occurring dark shade with a striking grain.
